Hummingbird Yoga

After spending the day off work due to feeling sick yesterday I felt I needed to get back on track. I think it was a combination of Monday blues, shitty weather, busy weekend and my body recovering from injuries that made me feel like I was run down. Tonight I got back home and wanted to do 1-on-1 cardio intervals but wasn't up to it so I did Yoga. It's been a while and as soon as I got into upward dog my back just popped and I had a moment of bliss where my body just said "Thank you". It was a well spent 40 minutes. I must keep doing it every week.

One on One with Tony: Super Cardio

Got up this morning and didn't feel like working out. It is Saturday after all. Little muscle ache from the push ups yesterday too. I watered my zucchini plants, put my futon outside to air then went right to it. Super Cardio. I'm enjoying Tony Horton workouts because it's been a while. I guess it's like seeing an old friend again and working out with them. Memories come flooding back from when I did P90X full on. He looked really tired during the workout though.

I didn't go full of course. Again around 60%. Lots of jumping and I felt my left foot ache a little. The doctor on Tuesday after x-raying my foot showed me that the bone is still cracked. He told me not to skip rope or anything so I toned down the jumps during this workout, even picked up a medicine ball to add load at one time. The workout was ok but medicine ball cardio was better.

Stats for workout;

Calories burnt;376 kcals
Time;46 min
Time in zone:14 min
Avg pulse: 104
Max pulse:153

The BJJ competition in a month has really lit a fire under my arse. Whereas I would have stayed in bed today. I got up and worked out. Even if I get nowhere in the competition, at least it will have been a stimulus for me.

One on One with Tony: Medicine Ball Core Cardio

So I did some cardio tonight. I have 2 medicine balls sitting gathering dust so decided to put them to some use. Tony's 1-on-1 workout was ok. It got me sweating towards the end. I was probably doing around 60% effort because of my groin strain I had to take it easy and not squat deep or extend too much. Even so it was worth doing it. In fact, it was nice to get through a beachbody workout because it has been some time.

Stats for this workout were:

36 min
109 average pulse
317 calories burnt
18 min in fat burning zone

Wasn't a bad workout at all and better than sitting around on my backside which I would have done.

Yoga

I just finished another yoga workout. I have to admit though that just before it I wanted instead to just sit down and play video games on this tired Friday night. But I didn't. I ignored that niggling little voice that want's me to be Mr.Mediocre. I feel good now. Relaxed, slightly refreshed and more flexible than when I started. You really have to focus on what it feels like after the workout rather than the hard part at the beginning. It's the same when I go to BJJ class. I always think of myself going home at night in the car, listening to Bossa Nova and feeling good about the rolling I did. The calories I burnt or the new techniques I learnt. Always focus on the end of the workout.

Patience Hummingbird

I've just finished doing the latest 1-on-1 with Tony Horton. It's a 35 minute yoga workout but with an emphasis on slow and relaxation. While doing it I just couldn't help wondering why I don't do more yoga. It keeps me supple and strong and also relates to jiu-jitsu in that it promotes balance and relaxation of the muscles. My muscles feel warm and stretched right now. This workout is definately one I will be doing more of. A must before bed to get you a peaceful night sleep or a great way to stretch the body out after waking up.
